The Guillebeaus Went Glamping

WE WENT GLAMPING!!!!

Being a photographer has opened up a lot of really cool doors (or tents lol) for me! When the Georgia Glamping Company (newly renamed to Timberline Glamping Company) invited me to come photograph their new Glampground at Clarks Hill Lake I literally gasped! I grew up camping at Clarks Hill, but it’s honestly been years since I’ve spent more than just a day-trip at the lake, so I was pumped to take a midweek 2 night stay by the water! And Niko was even more excited! So here’s my honest review & recap of my first time Glamping!

Preparation:

Okay, so it wasn’t until a couple of days before the trip that I fully realized that I’ve never actually packed for a camping trip myself haha! Josh and I have been on plenty of trips since we got married 5 years ago; but we’ve never been camping, so that means the last time I went camping my mom & dad were the ones to prepare for everything. Sad I know. So I had a little bit of anxiety about not knowing what to bring!

I decided to try to keep everything as simple as I could! We settled on simple meals like burgers & hot dogs & a few snacks. I had to fight every urge to not go overboard on junk food! Besides food, I also picked up a few essential “camping” items and of course some extra things for Niko!

My Glamping Prep List:

  • Food - There’s a mini fridge in the Glamping tent! I loved being able to have room to store small things like fruit & drinks without having to dig into a cooler all time.

  • Cooler - We still needed room for bigger items like meat, coffee creamer, milk (Josh drinks a lot of milk okay) and of course all the bottled water & cokes!

  • Cooking utensils, aluminum foil, ziplock bags, paper towels, plastic cutlery, paper plates, charcoal & lighter fluid for grilling, basically all the standard camping needs.

  • Water bowl for Niko

  • Travel dog food carrier/bowl

  • Thermacell - Okay this is a MUST! The mosquitos honestly were not much of an issue anyway, but I had this baby running next to me in the evening while we sat next to the campfire and I never saw 1 mosquito. (Linked it below!)

  • Lantern - This was perfect for walking to the bathroom at night! I prefer this over a flash light because it lights up all around you, rather than in just one direction.

Arrival & Stay:

My first thoughts when we arrived at our tent: WOW

Seriously. Everything was so dang cute! There was so much attention to detail in the styling and the set-up. The AC was on and the inside temperature of the tent was great. There were fun little touches that made it feel like home - cold water, cute coffee mugs, games, an oil diffuser & cozy blankets. It really felt like our experience as guests was the top priority of The Georgia Glamping Co. It definitely met my expectations for “Glamorous Camping!”

The bed was perfectly comfortable and we slept well! Even though there was still lots of prep work and packing that had to be done before we arrived, it was so easy to “move in” for a few days! There was no “setting up the campsite” that needed to be done, so it basically felt like walking into a hotel room!

Alright, here’s the super honest part to prepare you for: You can’t avoid all the bugs. The tent is super clean and very comfy to hang out in, but it’s still a canvas tent. It doesn’t completely seal at the bottom of the tent, so bugs can & will come inside. It really helped to keep the tent zipped up rather than leaving it wide open. In my opinion the bugs really weren’t that bad, I mean, it’s still camping -  you kinda have to expect to see a few insects!

Add-Ons that we had (And that I think are totally worth it!):

  • S’mores Kit - If you know me at all, you know that I am OBSESSED with S’mores so this was perfect for me!!! Just note that the kit only comes with enough for 4 S’mores. So if you’re having additional guests, or if you’re like me & prefer to have multiple S’mores… every night… you may want to get an additional kit! Or bring extra supplies from home!

  • Corn Hole - always a fun time!

  • Giant Jenga - This one took me by surprise. I had SO MUCH FUN playing this game! Do not sleep on Giant Jenga, it’s great!

  • They’ve added so many new options to their Add-On section! I def plan to try out some new things the next time I go!

3 Random Tips for Glamping:

  1. Bring your dog.

  2. Allow yourself to actually relax. Turn off your phone, lay in the hammock, DO NOT CHECK YOUR EMAIL.

  3. Make friends with your camping neighbors (we loved chatting with the sweet couple & their pup at the campsite across from us!)

Questions Submitted from Instagram about my experience:

Are there certain sites that are/are not pet friendly?
It looks like they’re all pet friendly sites! You just have to add-on the pet fee when you book your site! Niko absolutely loved glamping with us!

If you were traveling from farther away, would it be worth the drive?

Yes! It’s such a unique experience! If you want the camping experience without substituting your at-home luxuries, GO GLAMPING!

What’s the bathroom situation?

The bathroom facility was just a short walk from the site we stayed at, #27. The staff at the Wildwood Park Location did an excellent job of cleaning and maintaining the bathrooms! The building felt fresh & new! No complaints here.

What was your favorite part?

I loved just waking up, fixing myself a cup of coffee (they provided a keurig & their own brand of yummy coffee!) and sitting outside with Josh & Niko.

Things you didn’t bring but wish you would have?

More snacks! I really limited myself, but I was craving the camping junk food I grew up with haha! And a bluetooth speaker! I would’ve loved to have some good music playing when we were hanging out with friends! I’ll remember that for next time.

So if you can’t tell, I absolutely loved Glamping with The Georgia Glamping Company and I can’t wait to go back!!!! I highly recommend it! I especially think it would be fun for a girls trip or bachelorette weekend!
